The Committees for Eastern and Western Wards, to receive contributions or the new Fnir Grounds, will wait upon the citizens of those Wards during to-day and to morrow. We hope to liear a good report from them. Clkkical. We doubt whether any Legislature has ever had a more compe tent set of clerical officials than those of the body that adjourned yesterday. Col. Saunders, Principal Clerk, and Col. W, H. H. Cowles, Reading 01e.rkk of the Senate, have both recently been detained in their rooms by severe i IK ness. They are both efficient and courteous office rs : while Cols. Hardy and Pool of the House, who have had former experience in ; their respective positions as Principal and Assistant Clerks of the House, are the right men in the right place. No . better officers can be found any where. The Enrolling and Engrossing Clerks of the two Houses are worthy, energetic and clever gentlemen, and have striven diligently to perform their duties. The court met on Monday of last week. udge S. W. Watts presiding. The charge of the Judge to-the grand jury was a characteristic one with some slight variations. He commenced with the primeval history ot man, and went ex tensively into a learned elucidation of human frailties. He insisted, with pa thetic earnestness, that man was a crea ture of lively growth and his first great and paramount duty was to know him self. His allusion, or rather'disquisiuon, n regard to the organism of the mind, together with its connection with the soul, displayed a large research and a profound knowledge of metaphysics. The' usual biblical quotations-were fitted ia with a skill and precision which niy Jong practice can secure, ana new aurels were added to the . speaker's reputation for piety. : . io the great dissatisfaction of an bearers, the Charge only took up some three hours, and when it ended a uni versal regret was expressed. Both the civil and criminal docket was light, and the Court got through with its business and adjourned on Fri day night. Speaker Robinson.
